Housing Trust

The Whately Housing Trust is a municipal agency, subject to open meeting laws, created with the goal of assisting in the provision of housing that is affordable to persons and families of low and moderate income. The trust itself allows municipalities to collect funds for affordable housing, segregate them out of the general municipal budget into a trust fund, and use the funds for local initiatives to create and preserve affordable housing.

When active, Whately’s housing trust has a five-member board, one of which must be a member of the Selectboard (and we suggest one member be on the CPC). Housing Trust board members are appointed for two-year terms. The Town Treasurer is custodian of the funds, and the trust’s books are audited annually.
