Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit Program

Are you a Senior aged 65 or over and would like to receive a tax credit?  The Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit may help.

Perhaps you’re eligible for the Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit on your Massachusetts taxes. If your property taxes and half of your water expense add up to more than 10% of your income or if your rent payments exceed 25% of your income, you can get a credit of up to $2,590 for the 2023 tax year. You must own or rent a property in Massachusetts that is your primary residence, be 65 or older as of Dec. 31, and have an income below $65,000 for a single person not a head of household, $86,000 for a single head of household, or $103,000 for a couple filing jointly. You must file a Mass income tax return.  If you qualify, fill out Mass. Schedule CB and file it with your return. If the credit is larger than your tax, they’ll send you a check.  You can amend previous years’ returns too.  Find more information:  Massachusetts Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit | Mass.gov

Also you may be eligible for one of the many exemptions available through the Town of Whately.  Check out the Assessor's page for more information on these exemptions.
