Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit

Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit

Perhaps you’re eligible for the Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit on your Massachusetts taxes. If your property taxes and half of your water expense add up to more than 10% of your income or if your rent payments exceed 25% of your income, you can get a credit of up to $1150 for the 2020 tax year. You must own or rent a property in Massachusetts that is your primary residence, be 65 or older as of Dec. 31, and have an income below $61,000 for a single person not a head of household, $76,000 for a single head of household, or $88,000 for a couple filing jointly. You must file a Mass income tax return.  If you qualify, fill out Mass. Schedule CB and file it with your return. If the credit is larger than your tax, they’ll send you a check.  You can amend previous years’ returns too.  Find more information at https://www.mass.gov/how-to/apply-for-the-circuit-breaker-credit.
