2010 CONCERT SCHEDULE:

August 4
Bee Eaters: The Bee Eaters boasts four of the most accomplished, creative young talents
of the new generation, tracing roots back to the musical traditions of Bluegrass, Old-time,
Celtic, Jazz and Pop. The quartet combines the strong, striking music of hammered
dulcimer virtuoso Simon Chrisman and banjo phenomenon Wes Corbett with the inimitable
sound of brother-sister fiddle duo Tristan and Tashina Clarridge.

August 11
Lau: Formed out of the progressive traditional music scene in Edinburgh, Lau have
consistently discovered new musical boundaries with their unique take on ‘folk’. The
multi- award winning Scots / English trio have issued three highly acclaimed albums,
in as many years which have seen the band taken their legendary live concert show
to all corners of the globe. Lau are: Kris Drever – Guitar, Vocal; Martin Green – Accordion;
Aidan O’Rourke – Fiddle.

August 18

Matt Haimovitz: To hear Matt play his cello in a venue like the Chapel is to be let in on
the ineffable secret that is the power of music to move the mind, body and soul.
I kid you not! You've got to hear it to believe it.

August 25
Della Mae: Della Mae features the reigning National Fiddle Champion Kimber Ludiker,
powerhouse vocalist and songwriter Laura Cortese, seasoned bassist Amanda Kowalski,
accomplished guitarist Avril Smith and the driving banjo of Grace Van’t Hof. Inspired
by great American performers and songwriters like Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Martin, the Carter Family and Loretta Lynn, Della Mae strives to create music that tells a story while delivering a punch. Though distinctly bluegrass, their unique sound is the culmination of diverse musical backgrounds.

September 1
David Wax Museum: David Wax's circuitous journey to and from the back
roads of Mexico has inspired The David Wax Museum’s lively fusion of traditional Mexican and American folk music.  With its heart-wrenching harmonies, poignant lyrics, and rooted Americana sound, this talented Boston-based band has quickly won over audiences across New England.
The David Wax Museum’s exuberant Mexo-Americana songs bring audiences to their feet with Latin rhythms, call-and-response hollering, and donkey jawbone rattling.

September 8
Catie Curtis:
Hailed as a “Folk-rock goddess” by The New Yorker, Catie Curtis has been a
fan favorite on the acoustic music scene for a number of years now. Her well-deserved reputation
as one of our very best singer/songwriters has followed her through ten critically-acclaimed
recordings. Don't miss her intoxicating blend of folk/pop, enduring lyrics, and heartrendingly pure singing.

Friends of the Whately Library Seek New Board Member
s

The Friends of the Library is an organization founded to support activities within the library.  We run an annual book sale in the fall and use the proceeds to fund craft projects, programs and prizes for the Summer Reading Program. We have also organized free lecture series, focused on Whately authors, nature, and local history. We instituted movie times for children and families, provide funding for refreshments at events, and recently sponsored a concert. Three founding board members are leaving their posts for various reasons and we are looking for volunteers to continue this fun and important work. Please let us know if you want to learn more about the particular responsibilities and rewards.  Board members meet once a month.

Please join us at our next Friends meeting on Monday, Aug 2nd at 6pm or contact Sara Cooper at 665-0537 or friends@whately.org for more information.

Volunteers Needed
The Library is looking for volunteers to lead craft projects for children and adults. Please contact Tiffany with your ideas and suggestions.
