Residents may license their dogs by mail. Send copy of current rabies vaccination, the appropriate fee (Checks made payable to the Town of Whately), and mail all to the Town Clerk, PO Box 89

Social Worker, Lauren Corbett 
Outreach service to the three towns that make up Frontier C.O.A. and help with insurance is available. Lauren Corbett works 10 hours per week helping seniors and their families. 665-9508

Bus to Walmart
The second Thursday of each month, a bus will pick up Seniors at the Center at 9am for shopping at the Northampton Walmart. The bus departs Walmart at 11am for the return trip. 
Cost is $3.00 and you must call the center to sign up.

Big Y Coins
Donate your Big Y coins to seniors.
Contact Sharyn at 665-3017 for more information.

Donate Old Cell Phones
If you have a cell phone you no longer use, consider donating it
for seniors to use in case of an emergency. The seniors will only
be able to call 911 connecting them with the state police, 
who in turn call the local police.

OTHER UPCOMING EVENTS....

PAPER SHREDDING EVENT

  The Springfield Materials Recycling Facility Advisory Board (MAB) is sponsoring three free shredding events on September 20 in Agawam, Greenfield and Northampton.  These shredding events are free and open to residents and small businesses from western Massachusetts’s municipalities.   The paper will be recycled after shredding.  Shredded paper may also be recycled in local recycling programs. Place in a paper bag; no plastic bags.
The shredding events will be held at the following locations on Saturday September 20, from 9 am to 1 pm:

                  ·       
Staples, 259 Mohawk Trail (Rt. 2), Greenfield

·        Smith Vocational High School, 80 Locust Street (Rt. 9), Northampton

·        Agawam DPW, 1000 Suffield Street, Agawam

There is a per person shredding limit of one recycling bin full of confidential papers such as the following:  cancelled or blank checks, credit card statements, bank statements, medical records, legal papers, income tax files, etc.   Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed.

        Annual Bulky Waste Collection

The District is holding its “Clean Sweep” bulky waste collection on Saturday, October 4, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Buckland Recreation Facility on Rt. 112 South, the Northfield Highway Garage and the Whately Transfer Station. 

District residents may bring a wide range of large items that are typically difficult to get rid of such as tires, appliances, scrap metal, furniture, mattresses, carpeting, construction debris, computers, monitors, televisions, propane gas tanks, and other bulky items.  Materials will be recycled whenever possible.  District residents are those who reside in the towns of Bernardston, Buckland, Charlemont, Colrain, Conway, Deerfield, Erving, Gill, Hawley, Heath, Leyden, Montague, New Salem, Northfield, Orange, Rowe, Shelburne, Sunderland, Warwick, Wendell and Whately.

Residents do not need to pre-register for this collection. However, there are charges for disposal.  Disposal fees, in cash only, will be collected during check-in at each site.  A complete list of prices for the most common items will be available at local town halls, town transfer stations, the District office at 50 Miles Street in Greenfield, and on-line at: www.franklincountywastedistrict.org.   Businesses may participate.
